The Denver Post reported that in the first quarter of 2012, Colorado employers laid off more people in the first quarter of 2012 than they did in the same period of 2011. You have to wonder how many of these corporations offered career transition services to their departing employees.
With the release of the movie “Up in the Air” (2009), people are more aware of the term “career transition services.” Unfortunately, following the movie, many came away with an unrealistic view of what these services provide. Although George Clooney presented a thoughtful display of acting on screen, career transition is a strategic and compassionate way of caring for employees that companies should not ignore.
Career transition services have really taken a beating in the last several years with rampant reports of people feeling like, “oh, right, I went to one workshop, and it wasn’t really helpful to my job search, so I didn’t go back.”
Let’s face it. Job Seekers, whether you have been laid off once or multiple times, there is so much to the process that you don’t know what you don’t know. We want to help you understand the truth about career transition services and how it can help you succeed in your career.
Your prior company pays, at times, a hefty sum of money to provide you this service. So what keeps you from taking full advantage of the services? The job market has changed substantially with an influx of candidates, limited positions, social media, panel interviews, the famous “black hole” otherwise known as the Applicant Tracking System, and this buzz term, “personal branding.” Do you really know how to navigate these troubled waters? Unlike some of our competitors, we don’t push our transitioning employees into workshops or send them to watch a webinar on “how to effectively network.” Our philosophy is that you can network much more effectively if you’re not trapped behind a computer.
If you have recently been affected by a corporate downsizing, reach out to the experts. Experts like OI Partners effectively utilize the career transition program that you have been offered. We truly care about your career. Therefore, we encourage you to listen and put into action the expert advice. This helps us to speed up your job search and reduce the time you spend searching for your next position.
Now – buyer beware – watch out for companies that claim that they can “guarantee a job” or those that say, “pay me thousands of dollars and I will find you a job.” Nobody can guarantee a job in today’s economic condition.
Take an objective voice on the job hunt with you – you don’t have to do it alone! Let’s face it – you don’t know what you don’t know! We care and truly want to help you succeed in your career.
